Puka Nacua reveals surprising fact about viral ‘Sam Darnold’ Super Bowl post

Puka Nacua’s infamous “Sam Darnold” Super Bowl 60 remark wasn’t meant to be shade — at least not initially.

The Rams star revealed this week that when he fired off the controversial post in the middle of the NFL’s Feb. 8 championship game in Santa Clara, it was him simply reacting to a silly interaction Darnold had with some Patriots players.

“It’s a point in the game where he tries to take a knee and he kind of falls into the Patriots guy’s lap,” Nacua said on Wednesday’s “One Night with Steiny” podcast. “And the guy tries to help him up and he doesn’t take it.

Nacua, though, said once he started getting backlash for the comment — which included a barb from his former teammate — he just decided to run with the narrative that it was a dig.

“I was like, ‘All right, I’m not going to explain myself now,'” he said. “It was too far already.”

He actually added that he hoped the whole situation now makes the Seahawks vs. Rams rivalry grow to another level.

“That’s going to make sure everybody watches our games when we play them,” he said.

Darnold ultimately finished the game 19-of-38 for 202 yards and one touchdown, and while Nacua made it clear he’s no fan of Seattle, he did give the quarterback some praise.

He acknowledged the signal-caller played well all season, and noted, “He does have like a crazy journey of being in the NFL.”
