Sir Rod Stewart has called off the remaining dates of his US tour after having what was described as a "routine" heart procedure.
The 81-year-old singer has been advised by doctors to recuperate for the next four weeks following a coronary stent procedure.
A stent is a small wire tube that can be inserted into coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart, if they have become narrowed or blocked.
"I'm already feeling better and very much on the mend," Sir Rod said on Instagram, external.
"I want to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me.
"I am deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon."
The veteran singer, known for classic hits like Maggie May, Sailing and Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?, had been due to perform 11 concerts in the US in the coming weeks, including a six-date residency in Las Vegas.
He had already cancelled shows in Cincinnati on Sunday and Cleveland on Tuesday because of what was described as "an unforeseen but minor medical procedure".
A new statement posted on Instagram, external on Tuesday said: "Following further medical evaluation, Sir Rod Stewart has successfully undergone a routine coronary stent procedure.
"Doctors are pleased with his recovery, and Rod is doing very well and has returned to his normal daily activities. On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage.
"Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates.
"Information regarding affected performances will be communicated by the respective promoters and venues."
Sir Rod also has three dates in his tour schedule for Mexico in September, for which tickets are currently still on sale.
