Add The California Post on Google At least the Los Angeles Angels are attempting to address their mediocrity.
The team announced Tuesday they fired pitching coach Mike Maddux, bullpen coach Dom Chiti and assistant pitching coach Darryl Scott.
This comes while the Angels’ pitching staff, which has issued the most walks (508) in the league, has a collective 4.51 ERA, 24th-best in MLB.

Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images Maddux, who is the older brother of MLB legend and Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux, joined the Angels this past offseason and was on a one-year contract. Chiti has had multiple stints and roles with Los Angeles but was promoted to be its bullpen coach under Maddux before the 2026 season began. Chiti and Scott were also on one-year contracts.
“After spending time discussing with Kurt where we are as a coaching staff and where we want to go in the future, we felt it was best to make a change,” Angels general manager Mike Mozeliak said in a statement following the firings
This serves as further proof the Angels are all-in on wholesale changes to their organization. They traded several key players before this year’s deadline and finally look ready to enter a proper rebuild after trying (and failing) to field a competitive roster in recent seasons.

AP Photo/Stephanie Scarbrough Some would say that the Angels’ true rebuild can’t begin until polarizing owner Arte Moreno sells the team. But Moreno has been clear he has no intention of doing so, despite it being the wish of the Angels’ fan base.
The Angels currently have a 45-74 record and are sitting in last place in the AL West. First-year manager Kurt Suzuki would presumably be the next coach to lose his job, but he seemingly remains safe for the time being.
