Add The New York Post on Google The Yankees close out a nine-game homestand by hosting the struggling Mariners for the opener of a three-game set on Tuesday evening.

New York narrowly missed a sweep of Atlanta, taking two of three from the NL East powerhouse.

The focus now shifts to the Mariners, who turn to Bryan Woo (8-8, 4.31 ERA) in hopes of halting a four-game losing skid.

Woo has been abysmal away from Seattle, posting a 1-8 road record and a 6.71 ERA while surrendering 78 hits and nine homers across 63 innings.

The Pinstripes hand the ball to Ryan Weathers (5-7, 3.79 ERA), who enters this matchup following a solid showing against the Cardinals. The southpaw struck out six and allowed only four hits over six innings to help secure a Yankees victory.

Weathers has already proven he can handle this Mariners lineup, having limited them to a lone run and four hits while striking out seven in the Yankees’ previous meeting against Seattle in March.

The Mariners’ offense continues to struggle against lefties, sitting at 29th in the majors with a dismal .220 batting average and a .648 OPS.

Weathers’ most recent pitching breakthrough coincided with the highly anticipated professional debut of George Lombard Jr.

New York Yankees’ George Lombard Jr. blows a bubble on the field in the ninth inning during Old Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, August 8, 2026. (JASON SZENES) JASON SZENES FOR THE NEW YORK POST Lombard Jr. has provided a much-needed spark at shortstop. The 21-year-old is living up to the hype, injecting new energy into the infield.

The rookie has been equally impressive at the plate, maintaining a four-game hitting streak that only came to an end during Sunday’s 2-1 extra-innings defeat against the Braves.

Despite that minor setback, the elite prospect boasts a .294 average with a pair of homers and five hits across just 17 plate appearances.

Considering Woo’s significant road struggles, Lombard Jr. is in a prime position to bounce back and find the hit column in Tuesday’s opener.

Weathers holds a significant advantage in this matchup, and I expect him to keep Seattle at bay early, giving the Yankees the edge through the first five innings.
