Part of Nets general manager Sean Marks’ responsibility is not to mortgage that future again, to learn from predecessor Billy King’s catastrophic 2013 mistake and not make the same one.
The Nets suffered tough draft lottery luck the past two years, falling a combined five places. Despite having been tied for the best odds of winning the lottery this May — and of landing a franchise-changing top-four pick — the Nets plummeted to No. 6 overall. It’s the kind of crushing result that could have triggered a rash reaction.
