Add The New York Post on Google Feeling hot & bothered It’s summertime. When living once was easy.
Now? We’re getting to be the Middle East’s Western front.
Land of the former free, home of the current craven.
If it isn’t raining, pouring, drowning us — it’s marches, pickets, riots, parades, battles, hatreds, killings, wackos, freakos, sickos, junkies, lefties, commies.
All for one and one for where? Not just because lettuce is lousy. So’s friggin’ Fauci. It’s also shootings, stabbings, wall-to-wall wars, poverty, tattooing, near starvation, stores closing, rents rising, food prices rising, air thickening, rain pouring, bicycles killing, traffic worsening, politicians burbling. Also lousy weather, crooks, scaffolding everywhere, pols spewing BS, one-bedroom shares.
And now Hampton homes all advertise beachside. That is, if you don’t mind first driving your car to some parking lot in another nearby town.
Once we had Mayor Bloomberg who knew how to run things. Now he’s just running. He has a private beachside multimillion-dollar mansion in Bermuda. Large gardens. He should schlep back to check groceries in The Bronx? Or shootings in Bed-Stuy? Get involved in redecorating Rikers? Fumigating tiny old Gracie Mansion after taking down the photos of Karl Marx? I mean, please.
And if you own yet another basement within the city of New York you’ll also have to pay as high as an elephant’s eye. Forget counting on those extra few bucks to buy your candles. Even if that one-bedroom affordable home in Manhattan was formerly a basement, you’ll also now get taxed double.
The money probably goes to rejuicing Red Square. Or maybe big Putin might share his mastery with little Crapdammy.
So NYC has maybe a few issues. Nothing major. Like maybe public safety, crappy neighborhoods, budget problems, high rent, thievery, homelessness, lousy mayor, killer taxes, killer traffic, cost of living, unaffordable housing, lousy public transit, buses that aren’t free, unemployment, bad schooling, scaffolding everywhere but highway exits.
However, we’re the best in steaks and bagels. Arizona? Nice, but light on museums, culture, influence, chocolate sodas, pizza, hospitals, zoos, colleges, restaurants, Chinatown, Little Italy and — unless you’re big on rocks or you get off on cactus — entertainment.
And they got Park Avenue? Broadway? Radio City Music Hall? St. Pats? Fifth Avenue? Madison Avenue? Times Square? Statue of Liberty? Ellis Island? George Washington Bridge? Bronx Zoo? Bear Mountain? Catskills? Adirondacks? Diamond Center? Central Park? MoMA? Five boroughs? Our libraries? Metropolitan Museum of Art? Wall Street? Tiffany & Co.?
How’s the Staten Island ferry there? Corned beef sandwich? Kosher franks? Rolls-Royce showroom? Brooklyn Bridge? Wall Street? Dinner in a restaurant on a building’s tippy-top story with our skyline?
So, listen, if you itch to take your vacation in Kentucky — go. Mazel tov. Tell me about the local Wendy’s.
Understand, we are all wildly insanely grateful for our new little mayor. Of course, our city’s economy might be in worse shape than Ukraine’s. But at least there is on Crapdammy’s desk the encouraging sign: “Half a buck stops here.”
Only in New York, kids, only in New York.
