Add The California Post on Google Rogue anti-ICE protesters have allegedly stalked and attacked two federal corrections officers – who then required hospital treatment – in a violent attack that was posted to social media.
The protesters, one wearing a keffiyeh, filmed themselves taunting the officers as they finished their shift and made their way to their cars outside the Metropolitan Detention Center Sunday.
They were part of a group of between 40 and 50 protesting the actions of ICE, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed.
The MDC —which houses an immigration detention facility as well as the U.S. District Court — has become a hotbed for activists over rumors illegal migrants are being secretly detained in its basement.
One video shows the federal worker being pummeled by the group near a set of stairs.
Another shows a protestor snatching away the employee’s clear bag – the only authorized bags allowed in the institution.
The federal employee then draws out his gun and tries to walk away from a dozen protestors, who kept following him around with cameras and mobile phones.
“The demonstrators suddenly and deliberately attacked the federal employees striking them multiple times. LAPD Central Officers were called to the area via multiple 911 calls,” a statement from LAPD Central Division said.
Another video from the same night shows two protestors –– one with a Palestine flag and another with face covered with a keffiyeh –– attacking the federal employees in a parking garage.
The duo grabbed one of the federal agents by his backpack and began raining down punches.
“As we’ve been saying for over a year, if anyone assaults or stalks a federal officer, they will be arrested and charged with a felony,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli said in a statement.
“Attacking an officer is not only illegal, it’s also extremely dangerous for all parties because officers are permitted to defend themselves with reasonable force,” he added.
LAPD arrested two protesters for allegedly attacking the federal employees.
The workers remain in the hospitals and their conditions are unknown at the moment.
While the LAPD has not released a suspect description, detectives are actively investigating the violent encounter as both a felony and misdemeanor battery.
