In reality, there are only a handful of true contenders at the sportsbooks.
Outliers can certainly happen — the Seahawks were 60-1, and the Patriots were 30-1 entering Week 1, and that didn’t stop them from dominating en route to a Super Bowl appearance— but this year’s field has one clear favorite.
The Rams are +500 to win the Super Bowl at FanDuel Sportsbook, and every other team has 10/1 odds or longer ahead of the regular season.
Matthew Stafford’s MVP campaign was ultimately spurned by the Seahawks, as the Rams fell just a fourth-and-4 conversion short of taking the lead in the NFC Championship game.
In response to their needs on one side of the football, their front office addressed several key positions. Terrill The team oddsmakers expect them to contend with is the reigning champion and NFC West rival, Seahawks (11/1), who they’ll likely battle for the NFC crown. In their three games played across the regular season and postseason, the largest margin of victory was four points, which came in the NFC Title game.
In the AFC, two teams have risen above the rest of the conference’s potential contenders.
The Bills have the second-best odds to win the Super Bowl at 10/1, and the Ravens are 12/1 to win the Super Bowl.
The Bills once again came close to winning it all last season, but couldn’t get past the Broncos. The team moved on from longtime coach Sean McDermott in the offseason and elevated Joe Brady from offensive coordinator to head coach.
The upcoming season hinges heavily on the performance of quarterback Josh Allen and top rusher James Cook, who must carry the offense and for Allen to deliver an MVP-caliber campaign once again.
Baltimore missed the postseason for the first time in three years, and the last time they qualified, they were sent home by the Bills during the divisional round. The franchise also turned the page on a significant chapter by parting ways with John Harbaugh, who led the team since 2008.
Jesse Minter, previously the defensive coordinator for the Chargers, has taken over the reins. A full, healthy log of games from Lamar Jackson should keep the Ravens competitive, though questions remain regarding his ability to deliver in the playoffs.
