Missing man, 58, found dead in Ma On Shan after days-long search effort

Police say cause of death to be determined by autopsy for man believed to have gone missing in Tseung Kwan O on July 24

1-MIN READ1-MIN ListenAmbrose LiPublished: 5:38pm, 7 Aug 2026Hong Kong police have found the body of a missing 58-year-old man in Ma On Shan, with his cause of death to be confirmed following an autopsy.

Officers received a report at around 12.50am on Friday from a passer-by who had spotted a man lying on the ground near a slope on Nui Po Shan in Ma On Shan.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers confirmed the death of the man, who was believed to be the missing person last seen at King Lam Estate in Tseung Kwan O on the afternoon of July 24.

The force received a report on the same day from the family of a man surnamed Chan, stating that they had lost contact with him.

A police spokeswoman said the man was suspected to have become lost.

Police, the Fire Services Department, the Government Flying Service and the Civil Aid Service had mounted a joint search and rescue operation for days before finding him.
