Observatory warns residents to take precautions against heatstroke as extremely hot weather to persist under influence of Tropical Cyclone Dolphin
1-MIN READ1-MIN ListenKate ChanPublished: 11:40am, 7 Aug 2026Updated: 11:41am, 7 Aug 2026Temperatures in some parts of Hong Kong could hit 36 degrees Celsius (97 Fahrenheit) or above over the coming weekend under the influence of Tropical Cyclone Dolphin, according to the city’s forecaster, which warned residents to take precautions against heatstroke.
“Under the influence of the outer subsiding air of Tropical Cyclone Dolphin, the weather will be extremely hot over the weekend,” the forecaster said.
Dolphin is expected to travel across the Ryukyu Islands and the East China Sea before moving towards the vicinity of Zhejiang and the northern part of Fujian.
“Members of the public should pay due attention to physical conditions and beware of heatstroke, especially when engaging in outdoor activities,” the Observatory said.
The intense heat on Friday coincides with a date on the Chinese lunar calendar that traditionally signifies the official commencement of autumn.
