If this feeling is familiar, there is good reason. There are so many similarities in the discourse around George Lombard Jr., whom the Yankees called up to make his major league debut on Tuesday night, to what was said when Volpe made the big league roster in 2023.

Lombard dazzled in his debut, connecting on a solo homer in his second at-bat and starting a slick double play to lead the Yankees to a 2-0 win over the Cardinals as his overjoyed parents looked on from the stands at the Stadium.

“I think everybody around me, everyone here, helped me feel comfortable once I got here,” Lombard said.
