Giants closing in on stunning Red Sox Marcelo Mayer trade

Add The California Post on Google The San Francisco Giants have been busy selling players before this year’s trade deadline, and appear close to acquiring an intriguing young infielder as part of another potential deal.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that the Giants are “close to acquiring” Boston Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer in a trade for reliever Erik Miller.

The Chula Vista, California native has struggled in Boston this season, hitting .220 with a .594 OPS in 205 at-bats. He was placed on the 10-day injured list because of a bone stress reaction to the left ulna in late June, and still hasn’t returned to the field.

Fans will need to keep an eye on whether this deal is finalized before the 3 PM trade deadline.
