A Monterey man told police he was randomly stabbed by a stranger in the coastal California enclave when his girlfriend was actually behind the attack.

Officers first encountered the victim when he showed up at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula with stab wounds, according to KSBW.

He told officers that a man he described as Hispanic and wearing a red jacket approached him on July 2 in the 2300 block of North Fremont Street and stabbed him with a pocket knife for no clear reason.

After investigating the alleged crime, searching the area and interviewing witnesses, officers determined the man was lying.

Instead, they looked to his girlfriend, 19-year-old Jerralyn Stringer.

Officials ultimately determined that the couple got into an argument at an apartment in the 400 block of Dela Vina Avenue on July 2, leading Stringer to allegedly stab her boyfriend several times.

Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant charging Stringer with attempted murder.

Public arrest logs showed Stringer was arrested around 1:05 p.m. Thursday and charged with felony attempted murder. She was located near Gibson Avenue and Forest Avenue in Pacific Grove and was arrested without incident, KSBW reported.
