The pied-à-terre tax foolishness by Mayor Mamdani that includes harassing thousands of New Yorkers who have to prove the city is their primary residence shouldn’t be a surprise (“Zo dismisses target practice,” July 30).
What everyone seems to be overlooking is that many of the rich people that Mamdani wants to overtax occupy regulated apartments at below-market, protected rents. The buildings in which these apartments are located would be worth more and thus would pay higher taxes if those apartments were not regulated.
The unnecessary pied-à-terre tax might not be needed if politicians like the mayor didn’t use rent regulation as a tool to get elected.
There is more than ample proof that Mayor Mamdani is a terrorist and a terrorist sympathizer. He is putting people in danger by doxxing them.
Yet, despite repeated pleas to Gov. Hochul that she exercise her power and remove Mamdani from office, the governor has refused to do so.
You have finally identified something Mamdani is good at: blowing off concerns.
Not only is he good at blowing off concerns about doxxing residents, he is good at blowing off concerns about antisemitic violence, taxpayer-funded supermarkets that will put countless markets out of business and his and his wife’s warmth for terrorist cheerleaders.
The harder he blows off his ineptitude, the faster it comes back and lands on his shoulders once again.
I suggest those New Yorkers who are unhappy with the new pied-à-terre tax adopt a strategy the left has been using for years: Just put on a mask, block traffic and set a few police cars on fire!
If Mamdani’s tax policies push the wealthy class to leave the city, the loss of revenues will wind up cutting services to the poor, creating more hardship. Mamdani is on track to punish the poor with his policies.
The rich that were doxed by Mamdani have only two choices: Stay under his radical socialist authoritarian rule, or leave the city.
The Issue: A 12-year-old son of a retired NYPD cop killed by a stray bullet outside a Bronx bodega.
The look on Jacob Freytes’ mother’s face says it all (“Safety first . . . for crooks,” July 31).
Does anybody even see this woman? Look in her eyes. Who’s there to comfort her and all the friends, families and victims of New York politicians?
Last November was no cosmic intervention. New Yorkers are solely to blame. The city I was raised in, once a true beacon for all, is now a sewer infested with the worst kind of rot imaginable.
There are two things New York City voters have to do to turn the city around: First, you have to show up and vote. Second, you have to vote for people who support the police and also school choice. This is what will give your children a chance for a good life.
Doing the same thing over and over again gets you the same disinterested politicians.
Many are rightly blaming the mayor for the death of a 12-year-old innocent boy, but at some point they have to look in the mirror. Did they vote for Mamdani or choose not to vote at all? Both choices have brought this on.
