Heavy rain and occasional squally thunderstorms expected to last until Monday, according to the Observatory

The warning was issued by the Observatory at 10.20am on Friday, meaning that more than 30mm of rain has fallen in an hour or is likely to fall generally over the city.
“Showers and thunderstorms associated with a broad trough of low pressure are affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea,” the forecaster said.
“Locally, showers this morning brought around 10mm of rainfall to the New Territories West and Lantau Island, and rainfall exceeded 20mm over the southern part of Lantau Island.”
According to the Observatory, a few squally thunderstorms are expected in the city, with intense gusts reaching 80km/h (50mph) or higher.
The heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to last until Monday.
