Bill Streicher-Imagn Images This week the Eagles made Jalen Carter the highest-paid defensive lineman in NFL history. His new deal, details not yet fully known, will be enormous, the latest insanity.
But we do know that it includes a guaranteed $106 million, more money to play five months of football rather than, oh, funding treatment of victims and surviving families of reckless driving.
And yet, based on recent history — at 25, the only history Carter owns — I seriously doubt, no matter how much end-zone messaging Roger Goodell’s NFL blames us for antisocial behavior, that any right-minded, law-abiding citizen would allow Carter into their home.
And if Carter were sentenced to hours of vague “community service,” I suspect that clear-thinking residents would hope that he would not serve their community.
