Add The California Post on Google Former BYU football star Curtis Brown and his wife, Kim, are grieving the loss of their 2-year-old son, Haze, who allegedly died in a tragic drowning accident.
Haze is described as the couple’s “miracle baby,” in a fundraiser started after the child’s death.
The fundraising page stated the family, who live in Clovis, CA, is facing an “unimaginable loss” as loved ones rally around them during the heartbreaking tragedy.
“The Brown family has experienced an unimaginable loss. Kim and Curtis recently lost their miracle baby, Haze, in a tragic drowning accident. No words can ease the heartbreak they are facing as they grieve the loss of their precious son,” the GoFundMe page said.
The GoFundMe was created after friends, family and supporters reached out asking how they could help the Browns during what Chandler Pearson, the fundraiser’s creator, described as an incredibly difficult time. It’s currently unclear how Haze drowned.
According to the campaign, the donations will go toward funeral expenses and other unexpected costs so the family can focus on healing and spending time together instead of worrying about financial burdens.
As of Wednesday, the fundraiser had brought in more than $71,000 toward its $100,000 goal.
Pearson also encouraged those who are unable to donate to keep the Brown family in their thoughts and prayers and to share the fundraiser with others, saying every act of kindness reminds the family they are surrounded by a community that loves and supports them.
Brown is one of the most accomplished running backs in BYU history.
During his career with the Cougars from 2002 to 2006, he rushed for 3,218 career yards, becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher at the time. He earned first-team All-Mountain West Conference honors in both 2005 and 2006 after posting consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
In 2005, Brown rushed for 1,123 yards and added 454 receiving yards, earning Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week honors twice. He followed that with another 1,010-yard rushing season in 2006 while helping lead BYU’s offense alongside quarterback John Beck. Brown’s school rushing record was later broken by Harvey Unga in 2009.
After graduating, Brown signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2007 and appeared in all four preseason games before being released ahead of the regular season.
Brown and his wife are parents to five children, including a set of triplets — Cruze, Julie and Kash — and another son, Trey.
Haze, whom the fundraiser described as the family’s “miracle baby,” was the youngest of the Brown children.
No additional details about the drowning accident have been publicly released. The family has not yet commented on the sudden demise of their son.
