Long before Meadow Lane, there was Dean & DeLuca — a luxury boutique grocer that first launched in Soho on Prince Street in 1977.
While its US stores are long gone following a bankruptcy in 2020, house hunters can get a taste of co-founder Giorgio DeLuca’s lifestyle now that his Hudson Square penthouse duplex is back on the market — asking $25,000 a month.
It’s only the second time that the aerie, at 40 Renwick St., has been on the market for rent since the building converted to co-ops in 1994.
The lofty nest, which has been in multiple shelter magazines over the years, last listed in 2021, asking a higher $27,500 a month.
As for the grocery chain, the brand was sold in 2014 to Pace Development, a Thai real estate firm, for $140 million. But it expanded too fast, couldn’t pay its venders and ultimately filed for Chapter 11, from which it emerged in 2021.
The brand, however, still exists as a licensed name in countries like Japan and Thailand.
The 3,900-square-foot loft like space opens via keyed elevator access. It currently functions as a two-bedroom, 1.5-bath home. Its crown jewel is a 2,100-square-foot wrap terrace.
The main floor is centered around a chef’s kitchen and an open living/dining area. There’s also a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, 11-foot ceilings, a woodburning fireplace, poured concrete floors and floor-to-ceiling glass windows with stunning city views.
A chic floating concrete staircase leads to the second floor, where 18-foot vaulted cathedral ceilings add height and drama to the space.
The main bedroom suite includes a spa-like bath and opens to the wrap terrace. Decked out in Brazilian ipe wood paneling, the landscaped outdoor hangout features various dining areas, a grill, a shower and an herb garden.
The listing brokers are Cristina Cote and Victoria Terri-Cote, of Cote Luxury Real Estate.
