Add The New York Post on Google A sicko who raped a nurse after breaking into her Upper East Side apartment while she slept between hospital shifts was sentenced Tuesday to more than three decades behind bars, prosecutors said.
Donovan Murphy, 30, of The Bronx, will spend decades behind bars after his victim testified about the nightmarish, early morning Sept. 28, 2024 attack at his trial in Manhattan earlier this year.
The victim told jurors that she awoke at 4 a.m. to find Murphy — a complete stranger — in her bed, and that she screamed and fell to the floor.

Steven Hirsch for NY Post Murphy then grabbed her from behind and punched her repeatedly in the face, opening up a gash on her mouth and fracturing her skull before he raped her, according to trial testimony.
The depraved perp later used the victim’s stolen bank cards to pay for a cab up to The Bronx, where he bought items at a pharmacy, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said.
The victim, who was originally from Vermont and has since returned home, was not present for the sentencing in Manhattan Supreme Court — where Justice Ann Thompson slapped Murphy with 34 years in state prison.
Thompson rejected a bid from Murphy’s public defender for him to serve just 10 years — or 3,650 days — in lockup.
“3,650 days is a long time,” Legal Aid Society lawyer Sean Parmenter insisted to the judge.
Murphy brutally beat and sexually assaulted his victim, and stole her bank cards, according to trial testimony. Murphy was arrested four days after the horrific attack following an investigation by the NYPD’s Manhattan Special Victims Squad. He had been held at Rikers Island without bail since then.
Jurors convicted the brute of first-degree rape, as well as felony raps of burglary, robbery and grand larceny following an April trial.

If he ever gets out of prison, Murphy will face 20 years of supervised release, as well as a lifetime restraining order mandating he stay away from the victim.
“Today’s sentence holds Donovan Murphy accountable for this horrific attack on a nurse while she was sleeping in her own apartment,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a statement.
“Although this case has reached its conclusion, the survivor’s recovery continues, and I hope she is able to heal from the lasting physical and emotional impact of this crime,” Bragg said. “We will continue to support survivors of rape and sexual violence and vigorously prosecute these matters.”
