Will There Be A ‘Hijack’ Season 3 On Apple TV? Co-Creator Weighs In

But they’ll also be wondering if this is the last time we see Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) in his element.

Whether he likes it or not, it seems Sam was born to be an expert negotiator in high-stakes environments. After diffusing Season 1’s KA29 plane hijacking, unfinished business with lead hijacker Stuart Atterton (Neil Maskell) pushed Sam to carry out a train hijacking of his own in Season 2. After eight suspenseful episodes, he finally reached the end of the line, ensured the safe rescue of passengers, helped take down the bad guys, and ensured the safety of his ex, Marsha (Christine Adams). So is this the end of the line for Hijack, too? Or could Sam Nelson’s story continue?

Will be a Hijack Season 3 on Apple TV? Curious if Apple TV canceled or renewed Hijack already? How did Hijack Season 2 end? And what could a Hijack Season 3 look like? Read on to see what we know about the future of the hit series, including comments from co-creator Jim Field Smith.

While Hijack Season 1 featured seven episodes, Season 2 includes an extra installment, consisting of eight episodes total, which means March 4’s “Terminal” is the season finale.

As of Season 2 finale day, Apple TV had yet to officially renew Hijack for a third season. But the show hasn’t been canceled, either, and Episode 8 is described as the “Season finale” rather than the “Series finale” in the description. So could Sam return for another Hijack mission down the line? We asked Hijack co-creator Jim Field Smith if he’d be open to a Season 3 should the story arise.

“Hopefully we’ve done a good job of building to a really explosive finale. But more importantly, does Sam get the answers that he’s looking for? We’ve held back quite a few surprises in there,” Smith told Decider ahead of Season 2’s premiere. “So, does it leave the door open? I try to make shows that are satisfying. I don’t want people to feel like, ‘Wow, I feel cheated,’ or ‘I feel like that wasn’t resolved in a way that was satisfying.’ But equally, life isn’t neat. Things don’t always wrap up in the very chocolate box-y way. So hopefully by the end of Season 2, Sam definitely has some answers. But he will always continue to have questions. And those are questions that we can continue to explore.”

Smith has been incredibly open about his love for Hijack and working with Elba, so if the right story and opportunity presented itself it sounds like he’d love to explore a continuation of Sam’s story. So will a renewal come from Apple TV? We’ll have to wait and see, but if this truly is the end of the line, Hijack certainly went out with a satisfying finale.

Need a recap on Hijack Season 2, Episode 8? Decider’s got you covered. As we said, the finale offered some serious closure in the sense that Sam helped save the day once again, he and Marsha survived the season, and Stuart’s plan was revealed. But as Smith said, there will always be questions to be explored. And a slew of potential high-stakes scenarios that Sam could find himself in. In my dream, for instance, Sam’s talents are professionally requested to help navigate another hijack situation. On a cruise ship, perhaps? Because that man also needs a vacation!

For now, stay tuned for more Hijack Season 3 updates, and consider rewatching the series with all the knowledge you have now to see how the team teased all those twists.

While we wait for more updates on Hijack‘s future Season 1 and Season 2 are available to stream for all your rewatch needs.

Apple TV comes with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers and has just one ad-free streaming plan available for $13.99/month.

Hijack Season 2 is now streaming on Apple TV.
