The late Republican Senator hailing from South Carolina died at age 71 on July 11. Politico reports that Graham’s cause of death was a heart issue; specifically, “aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease,” which the Mayo Clinic defines as “a medical emergency in which a tear happens in the inner layer of the body’s main artery.”

A memorial service and funeral are taking place today in Washington, D.C. for Graham, who served in Congress for over three decades. According to CNN, President Donald Trump is set to deliver a tribute during the funeral, while Vice President JD Vance and Senate Majority Leader John Thune are set to speak at the memorial service.
