Nearly 6½ years’ jail for owner of Hong Kong tutorial centre who molested 5 boys

High Court sentences Yu Hey-tsit for ‘despicable and repulsive acts’, including recording some of the sexual assaults on his phone

The High Court on Tuesday sentenced Yu Hey-tsit for the “despicable and repulsive” acts he committed at the Prime Solid Learning Education Centre in Mei Foo Sun Chuen against the five minors, when they were between seven and 14 years old.

A government psychologist attributed Yu’s offences to his upbringing, unfulfilling marriage and failure of his private tuition business, noting the defendant appeared to have yearned for intimacy while looking for ways to escape from reality.

Yu, who turns 46 next month, had previously claimed that he committed the 15 counts of indecent assault and four counts of making child pornography out of curiosity.

The crimes came to light on August 24, 2023, after a 12-year-old boy confided in his grandmother that Yu had kissed and groped him on multiple occasions at the centre.

Following the boy’s revelation, his nine-year-old brother told their father that he, too, had been assaulted by the defendant.
