Add The California Post on Google A Twitch steamer is speaking out after gunfire erupted at his birthday party, leaving one person dead and multiple others injured.
San Jose streamer “NateDeBaiits,” who posts content regularly to Twitch, hosted the party over the weekend attended by about 300 people. The party was held near Hale Avenue in Morgan Hill.
Streamer “jcseay” was livestreaming from the party when shots rang out and attendees scattered in a panic.
“Long live Dezzi. My deepest condolences to his family and everyone who loved him. This doesn’t even feel real. He was my classmate and my friend, and I’m truly heartbroken,” NateDeBaiits posted on his Instagram story Monday as a tribute to one of the victims, Desi Romero.
“I’m not doing this for attention or sympathy. I’m doing it because someone I called a friend/classmate lost his life at my party, and my heart breaks for everyone affected,” he continued.
“He will forever be remembered for the love he brought to everyone around him. He was a cherished son, brother, grandson, cousin, and friend whose memory will live on in all who knew and loved him,” Romero’s aunt wrote in a GoFundMe created on Monday.
The party was held in an open field, and signs taped to poles read “Natedebaitts Birthday PARTY.”
Officials first responded to the event after they received reports of intoxicated people and a person throwing bottles at cars, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s press release.
Deputes arrived only to find a chaotic scene of more than 300 partygoers running away from the shooting.
Following the incident, NateDeBaiits’s Twitch account has been temporarily banned.
Four victims are still in the hospital, while two others have been released.
No arrests have been made, and investigators have not yet identified a motive or determined how many shooters were involved.
