The 20-year-old suspect, surnamed Hui, posted two comments under an SCMP Instagram post titled “Hong Kong Disneyland rolls out afternoon tickets, extra cooling to beat the heat” on Thursday night, claiming that he would place a bomb somewhere in Hong Kong, a source said.

After other internet users commented on the possibility of a typhoon hitting Hong Kong, the suspect wrote in his first comment that “if there’s no typhoon by then there will be a bomb planted somewhere in the city and it will take the entire workday for it to be found and defused”.

He follwed up with a second comment: “Can I get into Disneyland with a fully automatic rifle?”

The source said the suspect was arrested at his home on Friday on suspicion of making a bomb hoax, with no gunpowder, explosives or political slogans found at the premises.

Police have stepped up patrols at Hong Kong Disneyland, but no suspicious activity or items have been detected, the source added.
