Following a lengthy free agency, LeBron James defied all odds and signed a two-year contract for $8 million with the Philadelphia 76ers.
There, the 41-year-old superstar will join splashy offseason acquisition Jaylen Brown, two-time all-star Tyrese Maxey, 2025 lottery pick VJ Edgecombe and face of the franchise Joel Embiid in the starting lineup as the team looks to win their first NBA Finals since 1983.
For those doing the math at home, yes, that was a year before LeBron was born.
“I thought I was done when the season ended,” the former Cavs/Heat/Cavs/Lakers icon shared on X, formerly Twitter. “I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and [decide] if I still love this game. I still truly love this game, and I have more to give.”
“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family…I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.”
As of now, the schedule hasn’t been announced for the 2026-27 season but two preseason games — both against Jaylen Brown’s former Celtics — have tickets available.
At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find for the game in Philly, which takes place at the Xfinity Mobile Arena on Thursday, Oct. 16, was $471 including fees on SeatGeek.
Prices start at $184 including fees for the Saturday, Oct. 10 contest at Boston’s TD Garden.
