Terrifying moment woman jumps from 2nd-floor window as building erupts in flames

This is the terrifying moment a woman leapt from the second-floor of a burning Los Angeles fourplex to escape flames and smoke.

She landed on a small roof area attached to the building before firefighters retrieved her and rushed her to the hospital in an unknown condition, KTLA reported.

Photos at the scene show her clinging to an overhang several feet off the ground as black smoke billowed above her early Tuesday.

The dramatic jump took place in Los Angeles’ Historic South Central neighborhood at the 200 block of West 43rd Street. Firefighters responded to reports of people trapped inside a building at around 1:40 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Fire crews put out flames inside the building and through roof ventilation, a press release said.

More than 60 firefighters were needed to knock down the flames in 39 minutes. Two people, a 47-year-old female and a 61-year-old female, were transported to the hospital in fair condition, the fire department said. It’s unclear what the their current condition is.

Arson investigators with the LAFD have been assigned to the scene. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
