Jon Heyman What will dictate Reid Detmers’ status as a big MLB trade deadline target By Jon Heyman Published July 2, 2026, 6:07 p.m. ET Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers throws against the Athletics. AP Photo/Caroline Brehman Angels left-hander Reid Detmers could become a huge trade target if owner Arte Moreno allows interim GM John Mozeliak to make trades.
The just-fired GM Perry Minasian was disallowed by the uber-reluctant Moreno from making many franchise-altering trades for Shohei Ohtani before Moreno decided not accept Ohtani’s gift of an offer to stay with that same 97 percent deferred $700M deal.
Minasian was routinely prevented from making deals. As an example, even utilityman Luis Renfigo was once considered untouchable, according to rival GMs.
Detmers (3.88 ERA, 112 K’s) could be a huge trade piece. And Jose Soriano (3.42, 111) might be too.
