Add The New York Post on Google The sicko accused of raping a 13-year-old girl inside a Bronx park surrendered to authorities after he recognized himself on a Wanted flyer, police and law enforcement sources said Wednesday.
Abundio Hernandez Cantu, 36, of Yonkers, showed up at the 50th Precinct early Monday once he realized his image was circulating and copped to the disturbing June 23 encounter with the teen, who he met on an MTA bus, inside Van Cortlandt Park, according to the NYPD and sources.
He was charged with rape, sexual misconduct, endangering the welfare of a child and sexual abuse in the attack, according to a complaint filed in Bronx Criminal Court.
But Hernandez Cantu — who has no previous arrests in the Big Apple, according to cops — pleaded not guilty and was granted supervised release in court, as requested by prosecutors.
The teen and Hernandez Cantu did not know each, according to the sources.
Further investigation is being conducted, the sources said.
Prosecutors maintain that Hernandez-Cantu raped the teen and touched her breasts without her consent inside the greenspace at Broadway and West 262nd Street, according to the complaint.
He first encountered the girl on the BX9 bus before the sex assault allegedly occurred around 9:45 p.m., according to cops and prosecutors.
Hernandez Cantu will reappear in court July 28, the DA’s office said.
