On a shield shaped gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/8" (2.86cm) in height blazoned as follows: Sable, between a pair of demi lightning flashes issuant from dexter to sinister chief and a pair issuant from sinister to dexter bend sinisterwise, a sword erect, all Or.

The color black is associated with power, control, and covert actions under the cover of darkness. The color gold is emblematic of excellence and serves as a shining example to others. Lightning flashes are indicative of communication, speed, and the ability to be anywhere at any time. The four swords signify the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. The swords' positioning implies the joint efforts of a central goal. The sword serves as the unifying element and underlines the tactical nature of the unit. The spear head pommel alludes to the Special Operations Command lineage.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 5 May 2017.
