A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width overall blazoned as follows: Argent (Silver Gray), on a bend Azure surmounted of another of the field, charged with a lightning bolt Gules between, in chief a double warded key bendwise Sable, wards to sinister and surmounting a tower issuant from dexter base of the last, lighted Argent (Silver Gray). Attached below a Blue scroll inscribed "FIRMUS, VIGILO, VALIDUS" in Silver.
The white bend, edged blue signifies the Third Brigade Combat Team's vigilance to protect national defense. The combined symbols within the coat of arms form the Special Troops Battalion the tower denotes the Engineer element; the key indicates the Military Intelligence role and the Military Police functions, and the lightning bolt alludes to Signal.
