227TH AVIATION REGIMENT

A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a silver hawk with wings displayed and elevated perched upon the center of a silver draped scroll inscribed with "POUVOIR" in black letters; behind the hawk a scarlet broad arrow point up its left blade passing in front of the hawk's left wing.

The hawk is symbolic of courage and aggressiveness in flight. The pheon represents the unit's armament and assault capability. The motto translates to "Can Do."

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 227th Aviation Battalion on 4 January 1967. It was updated on 20 September 1973. The insignia was redesignated for the 227th Aviation Regiment on 30 June 1987. Coat of Arms

Or a pale Gules and in fess three pheons counterchanged, a chief nebuly Azure. On a wreath of the colors Or and Gules, a cross engrailed of the first bearing at center a sprig of oak fructed of three acorns of the second interlaced with a horseshoe of the like winged Azure, edged and garnished Gold. POUVOIR (Can Do).

The pheons, representing armament and ammunition, symbolize the assault mission of the organization. The blue nebuly chief alludes to the sky and denotes the aviation firepower of the assault helicopter and the heat and explosiveness of the battle zone. Service in Vietnam is indicated by the colors yellow and scarlet from the Republic of Vietnam flag. The blue wings refer to air mobility and allude to the award of the Presidential Unit Citation. The red horseshoe signifies not only the award of the Meritorious Unit Commendation but also the unit's assignment to the 1st Cavalry Division. The oak sprig with three acorns refers to the three Valorous Unit Awards.

The coat of arms was originally approved for the 227th Aviation Battalion on 4 January 1967. It was updated on 20 September 1973. It was redesignated for the 227th Aviation Regiment with the symbolism revised on 30 June 1987. The insignia was amended to include a crest on 30 June 1989.
