A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of an open gold oak wreath surmounted by a vertical dagger point up, black handgrip with a gold blade and hand guard surmounted by a diagonally placed blue square bearing in the middle a red phoenix displayed below a gold star and two lightning flashes radiating outward from base. Attached above by a black motto scroll inscribed "AVDERE EST FACERE" in gold.

Dark blue is the color traditionally used by Infantry units. The dagger alludes to military ability and readiness; also, suggesting the unit's designation of the "First Brigade." The oak wreath denotes protection; combined with the dagger focus on the unit's force protection capabilities. The diagonal square/diamond shape is associated with daring. The red phoenix, the symbol of the First Brigade, signifies rising to the action of training organic units and supplying administrative/logistical support. The star highlights the command and control functions of the unit. The lightning flashes suggest the electronic communication functions and gathering of information.

From a wreath Or and Vert, upon barry wavy of three Azure and Argent, a stylized Middle Eastern archway Khaki, the doorway quarterly Natural and of the fourth, in first and fourth quarters a palm tree Proper, overall two palm fronds, arched outwardly in dexter and sinister Vert. AVDERE EST FACERE (To Dare Is To Do).

The two blue wavy bars symbolize water, denoting the rivers located in Iraq, the Tigress and Euphrates. The combined images and the date palms on the sand-colored background illustrate the Battalion's campaign credit for multiple deployments to Iraq in the support for the War on Terrorism and its service with Multi-National Division Baghdad.

The coat of arms was approved on 6 April 2005. It was amended to add a crest on 27 February 2009.
