A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Argent, above a stylized mountain range of three points issuant from base Azure, a roundel emitting four lightning flashes saltirewise Tenné, the flash to dexter chief surmounted by a pickaxe bendwise sinister, head downward Gules, the flash to sinister chief surmounted by a double-warded key bendwise wards up of the second. Attached below the device a Silver motto scroll inscribed "IROQUOIS" in Teal Blue letters with a semi-bordure of the same color enclosing the point of the shield.
The lightning flashes symbolize the communications, intelligence and electronic warfare elements of the mission and denote speedy response and modern communications capabilities and association with the Signal branch. The pickaxe refers to the unit's mission and association with the Engineer branch. The key signifies the Military Intelligence and Military Police branches, as well as representing security and safety. The flashes are charged in the form of an "X", recalling the Division's designation, ten. The mountain range in base refers again to mission and designation of the 10th Mountain Division. The motto recalls the unit's identification with the state of New York and the five tribes which formed the Iroquois Nation, which in turn refers to the five organizations which constitute the base formation of the Special Troops Battalion. Argent (Silver) represents integrity and purpose.
