What Happened
Police Officer William Flood was shot and killed while off-duty as he attempted to take action during a robbery. Officer Flood was entering a building on Nichols Avenue in Harlem with a second individual. They we followed into the building by a suspect, who attempted to rob them. Officer Flood was shot and killed as he tried to arrest the subject. The suspect was an escaped prisoner from Green Haven Prison, was arrested a short time later. He was in possession of Officer Flood's firearm at the time of his arrest. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. He was paroled on June 30th, 2009. Officer Flood was a U.S Marine Corps veteran and was assigned to Patrol Borough Queens.
