What Happened
Police Officer Timothy Huckaby was killed in Knox County, Tennessee, when a wheel that had broken off of an oncoming car struck his patrol vehicle on I-40 near Campbell Station Road. The wheel, which traveled 50-feet in the air, struck Officer Huckaby's patrol Jeep on the top of the driver's side. He suffered severe head injuries as a result of the impact, which caused his vehicle to flip over several times. Rescue crews were able to free him after 30 minutes but he had already succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle that lost the tire was drunk with DUI, but was not charged in connection with Officer Huckaby's death. The passenger was charged with drunk in public and as a fugitive from justice after it was learned he was wanted in Idaho on an extraditable warrant. Officer Huckaby had served with the Tennessee Valley Authority Police Department for 24 years.
