What Happened
Detective Tony Gray died as the result of cancer that he developed following his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.
Detective Gray was a United States Air Force veteran and had served with the New York City Police Department for 20 years and three months. He was the 2014 Police Officer of the Year. After retirement from the NYPD, he served with the Bay Harbor Islands Police Department (Florida) and the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations in the Jacksonville Field Office.
