What Happened
Agent Robert Romero was killed in an automobile crash on US 64 (modern-day US 84/285), three miles south of Espanola while returning to Santa Fe following an investigation in Chama. He was assigned to the Attorney General's Office at the time of the crash. Agent Romero was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and had served with the New Mexico State Police for eight years.

He was survived by his wife, son, and three daughters.
