What Happened
Officer Raymond Hicks was shot and killed by a narcotics suspect. He was shot in the chest as he and four other officers searched a home in Inglewood for drugs. The homeowner, 31, was charged with murder and possession of illegal drugs. On February 7, 1977, charges against the suspect were dismissed. The judge said the search warrant was improper. Officer Hicks was a United States Vietnam War Army veteran and had served with the Los Angeles Police Department for 12 years.
