What Happened
Sergeant Peter Rotolo suffered a fatal heart attack while breaking up a fight between two inmates in the Monroe County Jail's kitchen on September 9, 1974. He was attempting to separate the two inmates when he was pushed up against a wall. After the two inmates were subdued, Sergeant Rotolo collapsed against a water fountain. He was taken to a local hospital where he died 11 days later on September 20, 1974. Sergeant Rotolo was a United States Army WWII veteran and had served with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office for 16 years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife, two sons, four daughters, a brother, and three sisters.
