What Happened
Chief of Police McCready was shot and killed when he responded to a domestic disturbance call. Chief McCready did not expect any problems because the suspect was well known to him. As he entered a darkened hallway the man opened fire with a 30-06 rifle from a prone position, striking Chief McCready in the chest. The round penetrated the front panel of Chief McCready's vest. He was able to exit the apartment, but collapsed at the bottom of the stairs. The suspect committed suicide after a lengthy standoff.
Survivors
Chief McCready had been Chief of the agency for four years and was survived by his wife, son and daughter.
