Nehamon Lyons

Killed at the Pentagon on the morning of 11 September 2001, when American Airlines flight 77 struck the western face of the building at 9:37. A hundred and twenty-five people inside and fifty-nine aboard the aircraft were killed.

He was born at Pine Bluff, finished at Dollarway High School in 1989 and moved to Mobile the year after. He spent three years at the University of South Alabama reading for medicine and worked several jobs to pay for it.

He enlisted in 1997 and served first aboard the Gettysburg, and transferred to the Pentagon in January 2001.

His family say he was a self-starter who would set himself something and work at it without stopping - that he was a man not because anyone asked him to be, but because somebody had to be, in his situation.

He had a broad smile that put people at ease at once, and eyes that told you he was listening. Those who worked with him say the same thing: he was such a nice young man, and he would do anything you asked him.
