What Happened
Police Officer Michael Roman was killed in a crash while en route to assist in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. While driving with lights and siren, a driver failed to yield, and Officer Roman's patrol car collided with the vehicle. He then struck a utility pole. He was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died in surgery a few hours later. The four juveniles in the stolen vehicle were apprehended and charged in juvenile court. The driver who collided with Officer Roman suffered minor injuries. It is unknown if the driver was charged with failure to yield. Officer Roman was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Houston Police Department for 2.5 years.
