What Happened
Killed on Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park on 12 May 2024, attempting the summit by the Keyhole Route. He reached the top and sent word at one in the afternoon; storms moved through the high country behind him. He was found four days later on Mills Glacier, near the base of Lamb's Slide, having taken a significant fall.
Biography
Lucas Macaj served first in the United States Marine Corps and transferred to the Space Force in August 2023. He was a space operator with the 8th Combat Training Squadron of Space Delta 8, at Schriever Space Force Base. He was twenty-three. Colonel David Pheasant, commanding Space Delta 8, said of him: Space Delta 8 is a family and we have lost one of our own.
