What Happened
Senior Patrol Officer Keith Braddock was shot and killed by a subject who had become angry over service at a local bar. The subject had returned to the bar with two rifles and opened fire, shooting Officer Braddock. Despite being wounded, Officer Braddock was able to return fire and shot the man in the leg. The subject remained in the bar and communicated with police using Officer Braddock's radio until the batteries ran out. A family friend of the man eventually talked him out, and he was taken into custody at 2:20 am. Officer Braddock's death was not confirmed until the man was taken into custody. It was determined that he had bled to death approximately 30 minutes after being wounded. The man was convicted of Officer Braddock's murder and sentenced to life in prison. Officer Braddock was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Watford City Police Department for 17 years.
