Jonas Martin Panik

Killed at the Pentagon on the morning of 11 September 2001, when American Airlines flight 77 struck the western face of the building at 9:37. A hundred and twenty-five people inside and fifty-nine aboard the aircraft were killed.

Lieutenant, United States Naval Reserve, an intelligence officer.

He was born at State College on All Saints' Day and grew up in Pennsylvania, where he is still remembered as a fine student, a superb athlete and a devout member of his church. He played varsity football, basketball and track at Bellefonte and went to the Naval Academy on the first of July 1993.

He played football and lifted for the Academy, became a leader in the Brigade of Midshipmen, and is still remembered by the history faculty. He graduated in May 1997 with a degree in history and was commissioned an ensign, and married Jennifer Dallas three weeks later.

He went through the naval intelligence officer's basic course and was assigned to Patrol Squadron 46, the Grey Knights, at Whidbey Island, deploying to the western Pacific and the Arabian Gulf. He came to the Chief of Naval Operations Intelligence Plot afterwards and was chosen as a flag intelligence briefer for his skill, and had begun a graduate degree through the Naval War College.

He loved medieval history and lore, sport and fitness, and travel, and was warm and gregarious - a friend to everyone who knew him. He was doing those duties when he was killed.

His wife Jennifer, his parents Martin and Linda, his sister Martina, and their dogs Jasper and Logan.
