What Happened
Sergeant John Hackett and Patrolman James Parker were killed in a police helicopter accident along McCoy Road south of Reidsville. The helicopter they were flying struck high-tension wires adjacent to a recently constructed bridge at 10:30 a.m. Sergeant Hackett was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the North Carolina Highway Patrol for 35 years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife, daughter, son, brother, and two grandchildren.
