What Happened
Patrolman Augulis suffered a fatal heart attack following a foot pursuit in the Ridgewood Neighborhood He and his partner were on patrol when they had witnessed two boys looting a parked car near the intersection of Irving Avenue and Cooper Street. Both officers chased them for two blocks when they lost them at the foot of Irving Avenue near the Long Island Railroad yards. As both officers entered their vehicle Patrolman Augulis complained of chest pains then suffered a heart attack and collapsed. His partner rushed him to Wyckoff Heights Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Patrolman Augulis was a U.S Army Air Force veteran of WWII and had served with the New York City Police Department for 13 years. He was assigned to the 83rd Precinct.
