What Happened
Reserve Officer Joe Jones succumbed to injuries sustained the following day when his cruiser was struck by another police car as he responded to an emergency assistance call made by other officers. Officer Jones was responding to an officer assistance call in the 700 block of South Beacon Street. While en route to the scene his police vehicle collided with another police vehicle near the intersection of Live Oak Street and North Fitzhugh Avenue. Both police vehicles involved had their emergency equipment activated when the collision occurred. Officer Jones received massive injuries in the accident and died a short time later at Baylor Hospital. Reserve Officer Jones was a military veteran and had served with the Dallas Police Department for four years.
