What Happened
Sergeant Holger Beck succumbed to injuries received in 1988 when he struck a dog while riding his bicycle to work. The collision caused a fall to the ground, where he struck his head. He then reported to work, where he lost consciousness. He remained in a coma until his death seven years later. Sergeant Beck was already on duty at the time of the accident. Sergeant Beck had served with the New York State Police for 27 years.
