What Happened
Sergeant Dave Campbell was killed when his patrol car was struck head-on on the North Bypass at Stewart Street at 11:20 p.m. Sergeant Campbell and his partner, accompanied by a civilian ride-along, were rounding a curve in the road when the accident occurred. The vehicle burst into flames upon impact, causing severe burns to the occupants. Several witnesses to the accident stopped and, despite receiving burns themselves, pulled the officers from the burning vehicle. Sergeant Campbell was a United States Air Force Vietnam War veteran.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife, two stepchildren, three sisters, and three brothers.
